Got To Keep On Keepin On - Again   Show/Hide This Report
This year has been pretty much uneventful for me so far with only a couple deer encounters to my credit. I've never had such a horrible season in my life but I think things are about to change. I've learned they ussually do when you keep your chin up and keep on plugging away. My friend Mike just got back from hunting my Northern Minnesota property with both good and bad news. First, Mike saw several bucks in and around my food plots during good shooting light. One buck worked a scrape for a long while and showed all signs of being pre-rut crazed. Unfortunately Mike hit a nice buck, probably high, and couldn't recover it. This buck went down in history as being the first lost deer on my property in the ten years I've owned it. On the lighter side, Mike found a huge five point shed, with a broken drop tine, that matched to an equally impressive other side would go high into the book.

The bucks are starting to really tear it up with scrapes and rubs popping up everywhere. With cool weather and a little luck I think we're going to start seeing some big boys fall on the Blood Brothers website. I expect nothing less from our talented and dedicated members. Good luck gang.

Time to get the job done   Show/Hide This Report
It's the 19th of October and I'll be concentrating on hunting in Buffalo County for a while. I like this time of pre-rut because I've seen good daytime movement of mature bucks at this stage of the game. My observations have taught me that the doe groups and immature bucks lay low during daylight while the mature bucks tend to move now. What better scenario could you ask for than to have mainly good bucks on the move and everything else sitting tight. If you see a deer it is probably a good buck! This same situation does not seem to be true in my local (Southern WI) herd, since most of those deer are dead from 5 years of "kill em all" CWD management. So it's off to the "Promised Land" for a slob tsunami.
