Does anybody have any results they have noticed from using these? I have to say, started putting minerals down a couple of winters ago, and I see a difference! Three years ago, I remember sitting in my stand one night having 3 fugly ass 1/2 racks, standing directly under me acting like idiots. We have taken nice bucks off this land, but more and more right now were looking to manage it each and every season. Now when I am sitting out I see a more healthy looking deer,better mass, good symetry in the rack. Just an all around nicer buck! I cant wait to see in years to come!

I am curious myself!! Do any of you use mineral licks. Have you seen a difference in your deer? What brands have worked for you. How did you pick your location to put it? I have not used anything, but am going to start this spring. Looking for some input; if anyone has any. Thanks

I have been using a variety of mineral licks/blocks. I drop these blocks late winter/early spring (Feb.- April. I put them on field points (in the woods), anywhere where cover changes really. I hunt hilly southeast MN so I try to hit either ridge tops or the draws on the bottom where ridges meet. I have used the "trophy rock" with good success. There is also a Fleet Farm nearby and I go to the agriculture section and pick up huge 50lb blocks of trace minerals for cheap. In general, all block minerals, whether apple, acorn, corn flavored, etc, have worked really well. Liquids I have not had as much success with personally. Overall, I think it just allows deer their necessary minerals, and keeps them swinging through the area. Deer are social animals and want to know who/what has been coming through their area. I don't set them right by my stands, but nearby. Its also a good place to get pictures, especially horns.

Just be aware that minerals is the same as baiting and in the southern part of Wi. it is not legal.

I used to use the small 5-pound red trace mineral blocks to "take inventory" of the bucks or to see if a particular buck made it through the winter. I would "take inventory" by placing one of these blocks in a transition area between the known bedding and feeding area of a buck I wanted to try to kill. I used the small blocks since they were easily portable and if put out in January, they were completely gone by late August. They aren't meant to be hunted over, but rather to place a trail camera over to get a pic of any/all bucks utilizing the block. I then knew after having the camera up from July until late August, if I had a buck worth spending time on to hunt when the season opened.

One thing to remember - never place this where you want to hunt, since it is usually illegal to hunt over salt (Michigan curtailed this practice for me a few years ago) and since you will be in and out of the area to retrieve the camera.
